Pilates for Desk Days

For many of us, the working day means hours at a desk, in meetings or looking down at a phone. Over time, that can leave you feeling stiff through your neck, shoulders, back and hips.

Pilates is one of the best ways to counteract it.

Posture starts with your centre

Good posture isn't about forcing your shoulders back. It comes from a strong, supportive centre. Pilates builds strength through your deep core and back muscles, helping you sit and stand taller with less effort.

Open up your upper body

Many Pilates exercises focus on mobility through your spine and opening across your chest and shoulders, exactly the areas that tend to tighten after a day at a desk.

Wake up your glutes

Sitting for long periods can leave your glutes switched off and your hips tight. Pilates and Barre both put plenty of focus on your glutes and hips, helping you feel stronger and more mobile.

Small habits at your desk

  • Set a reminder to stand up and move every hour
  • Roll your shoulders back and down a few times
  • Take a few slow breaths wide into your ribs
  • Sit tall, with your feet flat on the floor

Bring Pilates to your workplace

We work with local businesses to support their teams through corporate memberships. If you'd like your workplace to get involved, we'd love to hear from you.
